Julia Janelle Barnhill, better known as Julia Letlow, was born on March 16, 1981, in Monroe, Louisiana. She is the daughter of Terry Barnhill and Kathi Barnhill. Julia also had a brother, Jeremy, who has since passed away. She attended Ouachita Christian High School before pursuing higher education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in speech communications from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Julia went on to complete a Ph.D. in Communications from the University of South Florida in 2012.

Professional Career

Julia Letlow began her professional career as the Director of Education and Patient Safety for Tulane University School of Medicine. Later, she served as the Director of External Affairs and Strategic Communications at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, a position she held starting in 2018. Following the tragic death of her husband in December 2020, Julia decided to run for the vacant congressional seat in Louisiana’s 5th district. Her campaign was successful, with the support of notable endorsements, including one from former President Donald Trump. Julia won the special election held in March 2021 with a commanding victory in the non-partisan blanket primary, thus avoiding a run-off.

Julia met her late husband, Luke Letlow, while they were in high school. The couple married in 2013 and had two children together, Jeremiah John Letlow and Jacqueline Taylor Letlow. Tragically, Luke Letlow passed away in December 2020 at the age of 41 due to complications from COVID-19.
