Early Life

Pascal Siakam was born in Douala, Cameroon, on April 2, 1994. He was raised in a religious household, being the fourth and youngest of his brothers. Siakam’s father, Tchamo, was a municipal leader, and his mother, Victorie, stayed at home to take care of the family.

During his first years, Pascal’s life centered on learning and religion, since his father wished for him to become a Catholic priest. At age 11, Pascal was sent to a seminary school to start learning for the priesthood. But his real passion was focused on other areas.

While most NBA players begin playing basketball early, Siakam did not start until much later. He was introduced to basketball at 17 by fellow Cameroonian NBA player Luc Mbah a Moute, who noticed his talent and potential. Despite starting late, it motivated him to take basketball seriously.

After developing a passion for basketball, Siakam left for the United States to study at God’s Academy in Lewisville, Texas. At that moment, his basketball skills grew rapidly, causing college scouts to notice him. All his hard work led to him getting a scholarship to play college basketball at New Mexico State University.

At New Mexico State, Siakam’s skills improved, especially in his footwork, ball-handling, and ability to score. In his final year, he won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Year award and was considered a top pick in the NBA draft.

Career

The Toronto Raptors picked Pascal Siakam as the 27th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft. During his first year, he had to adapt to the NBA’s speed and strength and gained experience playing in the NBA G League with the Raptors 905.

This time was very important for him to practice, gain strength, and adjust to the rules of professional basketball. In the 2018-19 season, Siakam achieved his breakthrough in the NBA. With Nick Nurse as his head coach, he developed into a forward who could score, defend different positions, and make plays.

His strength and speed were crucial to the Raptors winning their first NBA Championship as a team. During the playoffs, Siakam upped his performance, scoring an average of over 19 points and proving he could play at an elite level. He was honored with the NBA Most Improved Player Award for his incredible development that year.

Over the next several years, Siakam remained a key player for the Raptors. He was selected for the first All-Star team in 2020 and earned a spot on the All-NBA Third Team in 2021. His talents in speed, skill, and basketball thinking made him a top forward in the NBA. His non-stop effort, teamwork, and drive to grow in all areas set Siakam apart.

After playing for Toronto for eight years, Siakam was traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2024. This move brought about a new phase for him. While playing for the Pacers, he re-signed for four years and soon became their top scorer and a leader in the team’s locker room.

Personal Life

Pascal Siakam keeps his personal life private, not sharing many details about his relationships. Family means a lot to him, and his father’s death in 2014 greatly impacted him; he pays tribute to his father by working hard.

He says that his mother and brothers always supported him, helping him stay humble and strong. He maintains good relationships with both his teammates and coaches, who acknowledge him for his leadership and guidance on and off the court.
